Phase One orthodontics is typically provided during a child’s preteen years to support healthy oral development. Once their permanent teeth have fully erupted, they’ll be ready for Phase Two treatment. This stage may include braces, clear aligners, or other orthodontic options tailored to their needs. Phase Two isn’t just for children and teens—adults can also benefit from this comprehensive treatment. Transitioning Between Phase One and Phase Two
After completing Phase One orthodontics, young patients enter a “rest period” lasting 1-3 years. During this time, permanent teeth erupt and shift naturally. At Citrus Grove Orthodontics, we carefully monitor your child’s progress, taking measurements and assessing whether additional orthodontic care is needed.
If braces or clear aligners are recommended, we’ll work with you to determine the next steps. Many children begin Phase Two treatment between ages 11-13, but the timing depends on individual development. Since every child’s mouth grows at its own pace, we’ll create a personalized timeline to ensure the best results for your child’s smile!
What Are Included As Phase Two Treatments
Phase Two orthodontic treatments may include metal braces, clear or ceramic braces, Damon braces, or clear aligners. Braces are fixed and can only be removed by a provider, while aligners are removable and discreet, allowing patients to eat, brush, and take photos with ease. While clear aligners are popular, they may not be suitable for significant orthodontic concerns, where braces could be the better option. After completing Phase Two, a retainer—either removable or permanent—will be provided to maintain results and prevent shifting. Your dental team will recommend the best treatment and retainer option for your child’s needs.
