Clear Aligner Instructions
How to Care for Invisalign Aligners
Wear, remove and clean clear aligners as directed so treatment can progress safely and predictably.
Your Orthodontist’s Instructions Come First
Clear aligner routines can vary by treatment plan. Follow the wear schedule, change interval and cleaning instructions from Dr. Jeffrey Brumbaugh and contact Citrus Grove Orthodontics if an aligner is lost, damaged or no longer fits as expected.
The steps below are general education for current aligner patients and do not replace individual instructions.
Daily Invisalign Care: Six Steps
1. Wear as Directed
Keep aligners in for the schedule prescribed by your orthodontist. Remove them only as instructed.
2. Remove for Food
Take aligners out before eating or drinking anything other than water unless your orthodontist directs otherwise.
3. Protect Them
Place removed aligners in their case. Avoid napkins, pockets, hot cars and other places where trays can be lost or distorted.
4. Clean Teeth
Brush and floss as directed before reinserting aligners so food and plaque are not trapped against teeth.
5. Clean Aligners
Rinse and clean trays with the method recommended by the office. Avoid very hot water, which may affect fit.
6. Check Fit
Use any seating aids as directed and contact the office if a tray cracks, is lost or does not seat properly.
If an Aligner Is Lost or Damaged
Call the office rather than guessing whether to move ahead, return to a prior tray or pause wear. The correct response depends on treatment stage, fit and how long the aligner has been worn.
